FAQ
The Uncoated Metal Policy: We leave our flame-painted finishes on copper 100% bare because liquid resins and commercial clear coats completely change light refraction, instantly turning the vibrant, natural copper oxide layers grey or muddy.
The Wear and Fading Expectation: Because the metal is unsealed, friction, sweat, and daily wear will naturally fade the iridescent reds and oranges over time, eventually returning the piece to its raw metallic baseline colors.
The $15 Re-Color Service: To manage the lifespan of the metal responsibly, you can mail your faded piece back to our Boone, NC studio anytime to have us pickle away skin oils, hand-polish the surface, and re-fire it under the torch to lock a brand-new bloom of color onto the jewelry.
Soldered Mokume (Wire-Matrix) vs. Mokume Gane: Our Soldered Mokume is a separate standalone art form from Traditional Mokume Gane. Traditional Mokume relies on flat sheet diffusion bonding, while our process tightly twisted wires, flooding them with a silver-copper eutectic solder via capillary action to create precise geometric mosaics.
How We Make Our Mokume Gane: We stack alternating layers of raw copper and premium Argentium silver, bind them tightly with stainless steel wire, and use the direct flame of a torch to permanently fuse the layers together into a solid multi-metal block.
The Green Skin Reaction: A green mark is a harmless, natural oxidation reaction between your skin oils and raw copper. It is a universal trait of the raw material rather than a defect in the craftsman's technique or the metal quality and even Sterling Silver can do it because its 7.4% copper.
